A few months back we ran a contest of sorts called ‘New Year, New Start’ – the idea was: if you’d been affected by hurricane Sandy – give us your name! We did a random drawing, and the lucky winner received a photo session for free. Being that it was random, we weren’t sure who we were going to pick (obviously). There were many deserving families, and we truly wished that we could give free photos to everyone (if we could, we would!). We lucked out when we picked these guys – they were so sweet, their little one was so adorable, and they were so wonderful to work with.

We are so lucky, because seriously – we get to have photoshoots with the cutest kids ever. No, really. Other photographers may brag that they have the cutest clients – but there is no way that’s possible.
We took a trip to Spring Lake last week to get some shots of this super ridiculously adorable family. It was windy (AGAIN! Where are you, Spring?!) so we were once again forced a bit inland of where we initially intended to do the shoot. Once again, we probably could’ve done this shoot in a junkyard, and still gotten adorable photos – because when you’ve got this much cute to work with, it doesn’t matter where you’re set up!

It is not often that I tear up when I edit photos – but it happened when I was doing these.
You probably remember the cutie from the last session. When her Mom (and a pal of mine from high school) had contacted me not only about doing those adorable Easter portraits, but also some pre-deployment shots for her family, I was touched and also thrilled that she was trusting Ray and I to capture those moments. All my love to this sweet family, and a speedy return home.

We have been very busy lately, hence a lack of posts. However – in order to catch up, we have quite a bit of posting to do!
We’ll rewind a bit back to Easter so that we can share this super adorable Easter themed shoot. While we had originally planned to shoot in Ocean Gate – the unspring-like (probably not a word) temperatures forced us a bit further inland. This little one was going to look cute no matter the circumstances, so it really didn’t matter where we were!

A day late and a several dollars short – Merry Christmas to everyone!

What better way to celebrate Christmas than with several adorable baby photos? Danielle and I worked together several years ago, and when she asked me to come over and take some pictures of her adorable new addition I couldn’t resist! Once Ray and I got there, we were informed of the double surprise that she had also gotten engaged the night before (so of course we had to do some ring shots).

Enjoy!

It has been so long since our last post – and we have been very busy! We also have a lot of exciting new projects in the works – so stay tuned! In the mean time, here are a couple recent shots from shoots –

First up, we ventured to Ocean City, NJ to have a great shoot with an awesome family. We had a blast seeing a new beach, and hanging out with these guys! To see the complete set, visit our Facebook Page! (facebook.com/deepsixphotography)

Next up, we headed to Rumson, NJ where we met a super sweet little guy who had more energy than both Ray and I combined. I’m not sure I’ve ever worked up a sweat doing a shoot before – but we definitely did with this little dude. Full set available on our Facebook Page! (facebook.com/deepsixphotography).

And last but not least – we headed down to Cape May Zoo to meet a super great (super big) family! Of course, we couldn’t resist and decided to check out the animals afterward. Again, full set available on our Facebook Page! (facebook.com/deepsixphotography)

We’re going to be updating more – so come back soon! In the meantime, don’t forget to visit our site! www.deepsixphotography.com

The other week, we had the pleasure of shooting an engagement session with Kristin and Matt. Unfortunately, try as we might – the weather was really not cooperating, but we toughed it out through really unseasonable June temperatures and some howling south wind for some absolutely gorgeous shots:

And then.. to cap an awesome evening – they were open to letting me do some HDR stuff – which I love to do. So basically, they bravely took engagement photos to a whole new level:

Awesome.

I interrupt this post to make an announcement: THE NEW SITE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED!

This may sound un-American – but I had never been to a baseball game prior to this Sunday. Well. That’s a little bit of a lie. I had gone to high school games (which I’m not sure count) but I had never been to an actual baseball stadium. If you only believe that major-league baseball games count – then I still have not been to a baseball game.

Anyhow – this Sunday I went to go see the local minor league game at a real life baseball stadium. I apologize if I am using terms incorrectly. It should be clear by now that I have no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to sporting events. All I knew, was that I wanted a hot dog and a beer – and I wanted to sit down, eat my hot dog and drink my beer while there was baseball being played. Easy enough.

Lucky for me – it turned out to be a beautiful day, I got my beverage and nosh (it turned out to be a sausage sandwich, which was arguably better then a hot dog) and watched some baseball get played. Also lucky for me, the home team won (I was root, root, rooting for them – of course).

Here are some shots from the game. Please note that I was holding a beer while taking these.

There were more balls in the stands during this game than I was told was normal – so I was living in fear that I was going to take a line drive to the face. I had my jaw dislocated by a softball in middle school – so I am extremely shy about any kind of baseball-like ball coming at me.

I just wanted to share an engagement shoot that DSP did, with a really great local couple, Michelle and Tim. They were super fun to work with, and it was a really fun evening!

If you’re recently engaged or getting married – Deep Six Photography is ready to book your event! If you would like to see the full engagement series, look at our site, deepsixphotography.weebly.com!

I recently made an investment in a new lens for portraiture with a super low aperture.  I’ve been taking quite a few photos with it, so I want to share a couple. For the record – the ones I shared yesterday from the parade were taken with that camera. Though I feel that these photos show off the capabilities far better. Well the first one does.

This was really the first photo where I successfully used the clone tool in Adobe Cs5 for something useful. There was an obnoxious construction sign on the top of the bridge that I effectively removed – thus rendering the finished image cleaner and nicer. I am really quite proud of myself since Adobe Cs5 scares the crap out of me.

This is Topaz. She is my 14 year old mini schnauzer, and effectively the love of my life. She’s always there when I need her, and she’s always happy to see me. She doesn’t like posing for photos, and she really doesn’t like flash. Luckily with the new lens, the aperture can fly wide open even in low light conditions and maintain a sharp shutter speed. She didn’t mind that I was snapping away at her this morning. Well. She minded a little. But she cooperated. This is her thinking pose.
